Our School & Community

About PS 705

Established in 2012, the mission of Brooklyn Arts and Science Elementary School is to celebrate the unique talents of each child and to cultivate those strengths into powerful assets that serve the student and society.

In keeping with our guiding principles:

We celebrate each other’s unique abilities.

We cultivate the innate curiosity of each learner.

We perceive challenges as opportunities for growth.

We realize the power of shared intelligence through collaboration.

We nurture the spirit of exploration through cultural experiences.

Our inquiry-based instructional approach is inspired by the Chinese proverb: “Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.” Our students are expected to gather and analyze information, make observations, and draw their own empowering conclusions.

Through a curriculum based on the scientific method, school-wide enrichment classes, and our global studies focus, we prepare our students to fully participate in the world as 21st century citizens.

Academics

GRADUAL RELEASE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The goal of the Gradual Release of Responsibility Framework is to provide appropriate instruction, moving students towards independence.

DUAL LANGUAGE
Starting in Pre-k, students in our Dual Language (Spanish/English) program begin acquiring the skills they need to become bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural. In each Dual Language class.

MEETING DIVERSE LEARNING NEEDS
Each Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom has two certified teachers who offer targeted support to students with a range of abilities. In addition, we offer students with disabilities (SWD) the services they need to thrive in a variety of settings. At PS 705, we believe all of our students can learn from one another.
